Vassals are minor rulers that organize parts of an prince's demesne, they are responsible towards their liege for whatever is happening in their part and are expected to fulfill demand and requests that get passed down to them.

In times of war they will rather commandeer the battle from the rear instead charging among the spearhead of the army.
