Eternal winter is merciless to everything that grows. Edible things are few and far between, many also fight back with sharp claws and teeth or run away and hide. Tribe members tasked with looking for food have to be enduring and versatile. They should know which plants and animals are safe to eat - or suffer trying. Wiser ones also know how to treat some dangerous foods to make them edible and mitigate harm suffered by those who are less wise.
