Many beasts produce venom inside their bodies to aid in digestion. Majority of swamp beasts can pull their prey into their stomach but not out - once food is in it has only one way to go. Consequently they cannot do a venomous spit. Some however are able to divert the venom into hollow spikes tipping their extremely long tails. They use it to soften their food before taking it in and hunt for prey that is too big to swallow it whole. It makes growth to maximum possible size less necessary which in turn permits the beast tame its body-building gluttony before its environment runs out of food.
