Companions are comprised fully of those that served for long and didnt for even once falter, in their combat duty and shown absolute loyalty to their superiors.
Quickly such individuals arise to the highest position achievable in the army which is being included into the inner-circle of any person of power, like an emir, sheikh or perhaps who knows, the grand vizier to the sultan himself.
