More humans survived the infection than there were weapons available for self-defense. Such necessity bred innovation. Some of the survivors scorned the attention and noise that a firearm generates, and instead prefer the feeling of a 'thwang' of a bowstring. Hunters spend a great deal of time for the woods, and provide the food needed for survivor colonies. Arrows are easier to manufacture than bullets, and are silent, making them ideal for a variety of scenarios.

In the post-Fall world, the survivor colonies still require a constant supply of food, the richest of which are found outside the protective walls of a camp. Hunters depart from the camps at dawn with an improvised bow and knife to bring back food to the colonies. Such implements also serve to preserve their status as the predators rather than the prey.
