Fortunately for the uninfected population, the virus was unable to jump the species gap between humans and canines. Although many of the smaller dogs were killed off for food, some of the stronger and more aggressive dogs have survived the inital infection and were recruited by the human colonies for their quick speeds and fearlessness in battle.
