Saur Flanker

It is possible to survive on carrion indefinitely if enough of it can be found. Yet in all but the most inhospitable places one has to compete for it. High mobility may allow saurs to find and reach for the meal earlier but once others catch up they have to either fight for it or leave. Rebalanced spear is less convenient for throwing but allows to fight better in melee. Club is a tool against deflecting kinds of armor. Small frame means that Saurs have little hope to overpower their opponents unless they also outnumber them so they learned to outmaneuver their foe instead. Demonstrated ability to strike where it hurts most and leave right through the ranks of reinforcements can convince many invaders to fall back and concentrate on defense or even leave altogether and look for less troublesome victims.
