Living in the shadows is often associated to criminal activity. In the important villages and hamlets some nightlifes make themselves discrete. They are invisible in most situations and deadly in all of them. While they are often used for dirty work some cities use them as a secrete police.
When an important army attacks they can stay behind while the citizen flee and cause serious damage to the intruders. In those situations they become respected citizens and are no longer outcasts.
