Many people think that the existence of the undead is a consequence of necromancy, but the truth is the exact opposite: necromancy is a consequence of the existence of the undead.
Indeed, it can rarely happen that, in very rare and exceptional circumstances, the spirit of an individual survives the death of the individual's body assuming a spectral form; in ancient times some scholars wanted to study this phenomenon, thus laying the foundations of necromancy.
The development and the diffusion of necromantic science caused natural undead to become an infinitesimal fraction of the undead people dealt with; the next consequence was that people forgot that the undead could also exist even for causes other than necromantic practices.
These spectral creatures of non-necromantic origin are characterized by a great reluctance to deal with living beings, and above all they have no ties of obedience towards Liches and Necromancers, even if they can occasionally join them.
Darkpirits are the most evolved form of the spectral creature; in addition to the ability to heal itself in the dark place, the Darkspirit are able to handle objects and to infuse those objects with the terrifying chill that permeates their very existence.
