Dwarvish Puppeteer

A tale as dark as the caves the dwarves come from is whispered to young elves, that fail to behave:

Once, balance reigned between dwarf and elf,
A friendship steadfast, as Zarf and Mave's.
Like siblings bound by the world's design,
They fought, yet neither crossed the line.

Zarf liked to play,
With those who strayed away.
Through darkness and mist his captives lay,
Zarf the Puppeteer made Mave’s own jaw obey.

With elves turning blades against their kin,
The walkers of the woods grew pale and thin.
Like siblings bound by the world's design,
Yet the family died.

They fought, until the Puppeteer's might did shine.
Dwarves cried beside Mave, at Zarf, who lied,
Zarf derides, and all have died.
