Apprentice to a dark master is a difficult path. While every black magician seeks a talented underling to groom for eventual leadership and perpetuation of the cult, they often test these aspirants cruelly. Yet for those who persist, the rewards can be great. Often it is not the strongest who succeed, but those for whom life has destroyed all other options. Such desperate individuals may find the will to go on when others would simply abandon the dark and painful path of the occult.
