Valon Overseer

Flail is preferred by mounted guards because it is hard to dodge or parry and can deliver heavy hits with less risk than that of a mounted charge with a lance. Earlier flails were prone to losing their heads because chains were not very durable. Before invention of methods for crafting sturdier chains, this issue was mitigated with an ingenious hook-like lock in weapon's handle. It allowed to quickly grab another chain with its hook and firmly hold it after that. Mounted flailers got into habit of carrying a couple of spare flail heads with chains - too encumbering for foot soldiers but well within carrying capacity of equine mounts. With some training and steady hand these metal balls with chains can also be thrown like heavy slingshots.
