Using shield in aquatic environment poses major challenges for a limited gain, discouraging all but the most tenacious practitioners. Choice of such a route is justified by the goal of maximizing one's defenses and survivability. Combined with advance preparations it allows to hold the ground - or water - against overwhelming odds or on unfavorable terrain.
