Not all felinians live within woods. In fact there are many habitats erected at the border of forests and the vast steppes that neighbour them. These homes need defending like any other and the plains require some more protection from their defenders besides agility due to the lack of cover. Heavy armor causes difficulties in moving in it, so it is rather disliked by the catkind taking pride in their agility. Even worse it would be in the dense forests native to them, but on plains felinian warriors can afford to sacrifice some mobility for a few lighter pieces of protective gear. That also includes large shields to make up for the added exposure to ranged weaponry.

Special Notes: The steadiness of this unit reduces damage from some attacks, but only while defending.
