Some humans become enthralled by the jephrif talent of body modification. Once their loyalty or really poor judgement is proven in battle, Constructors proceed to do what could essentially be called very loose science. Two or three extra arms, a tail, more or stronger legs to lift all that, muscles, pincers, spare organs, metal plates, quills - the Enchanted human can survive being grafted at least half that under a Constructor's care. The large amounts of pain-numbing required tend to numb the mind of the newly Augmented human as well, further cementing their commitment to the jephrif whim.
