Most Valons have only those arcane powers that can be derived from obscure knowledge so spellcasting is largely limited to scholars of their society. One exception to this rule is their steeds which possess very minor power over winds. This power requires concentration which is impossible when distracted by the rider. Once in a while relationships between the rider and the mount develop to a state of near-perfect harmony. Rider's weight still interferes with steed's ability to exercise its arcane capabilities, but intimate connection transfers and magnifies arcane power to the rider. Given apropriate arcane focus, this power can be directed for either destructive or restorative means. Traditionally wand or staff is preferable choice for arcane focus, but Paladins stick to their trusty swords instead as they treat mystical powers as auxiliary. Nonetheless the sword is irrevocably changed by its attunement to the arcane.

Note: this unit is ''leader'' - it cannot be recruited and if it dies then its owner is considered to be defeated.
